Before we launched this new website, our site looked like the image to the right for nearly 15 years. Rest assured you’re on the right website and we’re still the same family owned and operated Butterfly Encounters.
Comprehensive Product Pages
Being on Facebook is great because we get excellent recommendations from the folks that “Like” us. Due to your feedback we’ve created individual pages for each and every one of our product pages. Each page includes the following:
- Overview including plant height, flower color, flowering season, USDA zones, and origin.
- Detailed growing instructions.
- Larger photographs and more of them.
- Range maps for milkweeds native to the United States.
Introduction of Nectar Plant Seeds
For years we’ve wanted to offer nectar plant seeds, however there are so many to choose from. We’ve spent the past couple years testing dozens of various nectar plants. As you can see in our nectar plant seeds section we are only offering three types. To make our cut, they have to be exceptional at attracting butterflies and super easy to grow from seed. We’ve narrowed dozens of nectar plants down to just three must haves for every butterfly garden!
Native Milkweed Search
This one is cool! We encourage you to plant milkweed seeds that are native to your state. Enter your state into the search box above and hit Go. The search will return all milkweed species native to your state. If your state contains two words, like New York, be sure to put quotes around it like this: "New York" Give it a try!
BONAP Range Maps
The Biota of North America Program (BONAP) publishes detailed and accurate range maps for milkweed species that are native to the United States. We’re excited to include these maps on our milkweed seed pages to provide you with as much information as possible when you’re making your milkweed seed selections.
